Through a distinctive blend of Caribbean steel pans, with an exciting American beat, Steel Express has delighted audiences throughout the Chicagoland area.
The group was founded by Mark Smith in 1982. With a masters in Percussion from the American Conservatory of Music, Mark has traveled to Trinidad to study and perform pan and its music, calypso. His expertise and experience ensures the authenticity of the Trinidad tradition, as well as professionalism.
Steel Express has performed at various hotels and convention centers, country clubs, parks, night clubs and private homes throughout the Midwest, as well as festivals, schools, weddings, corporate events, and parties of all kinds. They have been featured at Taste of Chicago, the World Cup 94 gala at Navy Pier, with Jimmy Buffet at Popular Creek, with Johnny B. and his radio show gram, and in the 1998 Bruce Willis movie, Mercury Rising.
