Ebony Stewart: Touring Poet, Writer, & Performance Artist

 

Ebony Stewart is one of the top touring poets and performing artists in the country. Her work speaks to the Black experience, with emphasis on gender, sexuality, womanhood, and race – with the hopes to be relatable, remove shame, heal minds, encourage dialogue, and inspire folks in marginalized communities. As one of the most decorated poets in Texas, Stewart is also a Woman of the World Poetry Slam Champion. Her work has been featured in The Root, For Harriet, AfroPunk, Teen Vogue, and seen on Button Poetry.

She uses poetry, performance, and real-life experiences from the classroom and therapy office as resources to address sexual health, body image, mental health, and social justice. Her mission is to improve, support, and protect the lives of women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community by creating a healing space, through workshops and discussion – where we know our worth, acknowledge our struggles, and celebrate our victories. You can expect set lasting between 45 minutes and 1 hour, with workshops extending up to 2 hours. Ebony also welcomes emceeing opportunities for ceremonies, events, and conferences.

Writer’s Be Blockin’

Writer’s block isn’t real … or is it? This workshop is a guide in learning different techniques to help tackle writer’s block and get clear about what you need to bring your best self to the expression of poetry. This workshop will consist of discussion, note taking, writing prompts, and free writing.

This course uses poetry and performance as an instrument to speak from our honest selves and give our individual truth permission to be the bravest testimony we have to offer. It’s an easy way for students to write based on a prompt and connect when it’s time to share.

Sex, Love & Above

Sexuality is more than just the “plumbing.” This workshop explores all the many layers of how upbringing can affect relationships, while also providing healthy dating tips, goal setting, & investigating media influence. This workshop is best for engaging students through dialogue & discussion.

Culturally Sensitive

In today’s interconnected world, cultural awareness and inclusiveness are more important than ever. This interactive workshop provides college students with the tools to foster respectful and meaningful cross-cultural interactions. By the end of this workshop, students will gain a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives, learn strategies for creating inclusive environments, and develop skills to navigate cultural differences with empathy and respect.

Self-Care, No, But for Real

This program is designed to foster a culture of self-care and resilience on campus, empowering students to prioritize their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Through practical strategies, mindfulness practices, stress management techniques and awareness, students will learn how to integrate self-care into their daily routines to reduce burnout, increase productivity, and enhance overall job satisfaction.
